DTS Driver mobile application · Last updated: May 2026
Direct Transport Solutions ("we", "us", "our") operates the DTS Driver mobile application (the "App"). This policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose and protect personal information when drivers use the App. It is written to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Background location is used to provide real-time ETA to dispatchers and customers, to verify proof-of-delivery, and for driver safety. Tracking is tied to shift/login state; you can disable it by logging out of the App or revoking permissions in device settings.
When you start a shift, the App requests permission to access your location in the background ("Always" on iOS, "Allow all the time" on Android). This permission is used solely to:
Background location is automatically paused when your shift ends or when you sign out. We do not use location for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any non-operational purpose. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device Settings; the App will then operate with foreground-only tracking, but you may not be able to receive new dispatches while the screen is off.
| Permission | Why we request it |
|---|---|
| Location (While Using & Always) | Real-time shift tracking, ETAs, and proof-of-delivery geotagging |
| Camera | Capture proof-of-delivery photos and document scans |
| Microphone | Voice messages in the driver–dispatcher chat (if used) |
| Photo Library | Select existing photos to attach to a delivery record |
| Motion & Fitness | Detect vehicle vs. walking activity for accurate tracking |
| Notifications | Receive dispatch assignments and alerts |
| Face ID / Biometrics | Secure access to saved credentials |
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or profiling.
The DTS Driver App does not track you across other apps or websites operated by other companies, and does not display advertising. Because we engage in no tracking activity, we do not request iOS App Tracking Transparency consent. Our app's privacy manifest declares NSPrivacyTracking: false accordingly.
The App requests permission to access motion sensor data ("Motion & Fitness" on iOS, "Activity Recognition" on Android) solely to detect whether you are driving, walking, or stationary. This is used to optimise battery life: when you are stationary at a delivery, the App reduces GPS sampling; when you are driving, it increases sampling for accurate ETAs. Motion data is processed on-device and is not transmitted to our servers, sold, or used for fitness, health, or advertising purposes.
We share information only with service providers that are necessary to operate the App:
| Provider | Purpose | Region |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Alphabet Inc.) | Authentication, database, file storage, push notifications | USA / EU |
| Transistor Software Inc. | Background geolocation SDK (on-device; no servers unless explicitly configured) | Canada |
| Expo (650 Industries, Inc.) | Over-the-air app updates and push notification routing | USA |
| Apple Inc. / Google LLC | App distribution and push notification delivery (APNs / FCM) | USA |
| Vercel Inc. | Backend API hosting | USA / EU |
| Customers & Dispatchers | Limited delivery status and ETA information during active jobs | Australia |
We also disclose information when required by Australian law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of drivers, customers, and the public.
Some of our service providers store data outside Australia (primarily in the USA and EU). We take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients comply with the APPs or equivalent protections, including by using providers that offer EU Standard Contractual Clauses and SOC 2 / ISO 27001 attestations.
We use industry-standard safeguards including TLS in transit, encryption at rest (Firebase/Firestore), scoped access controls, biometric-protected credential storage on device, and regular review of third-party SDKs. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Under the Australian Privacy Act and APPs, you have the right to:
The App is intended for contracted drivers aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in-app or via email. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates the current version.
